Welcome to the 2018 Bake...

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Association and the commencement of Aurora Disability Services' day programme back in 1988, we again are ready to bake up a storm. As always the funds raised will assist the continued operation of our programmes and facilities.

So, with a few pearls of 30th anniversary wisdom along the way, this blog will take you through this year's bake.

We wouldn't be able to do this without our many supporters - from the businesses and organisations selling the biscuits for us, suppliers, volunteers; and of course all our loyal customers who return year after year to buy our biscuits (we hope you are enjoying some as you check out our blog!) - a big thank you to all of you.

If you would like a basket of biscuits for your business to sell, please email us at
auroradisability@auroradisability.org.au or call us on 6273 0916.

First orders out the door

And who were the lucky people to have them for morning tea?

That would be our neighbours at Guilford Young College...
starting term break this Friday but wanting to support the bake
(and eat a few yummy biscuits of course!) we made sure they arrived
as soon as the gate was open.

And then it was time for serious work,
Angela and Michael dating the bags.

The learning centre temporarily comes to a halt during the bake,
tutor Vim spends time working with Julie instead.

First day for Fiona, assisting Wayne with threading gumnuts,
Wayne relies on his sense of touch entirely to complete this task.

David and Sue cutting and weighing butter.

Tammy and Anita stopped to refill some bins.

Whilst Rebecca stirred the next batch.

We wonder how many bags Robyn has checked over the years.

New volunteer Viva and veteran of many bakes, Rosie
6 to a tray, marching off to the ovens.

Virginia on a roll in the pantry.

AJ preparing butter and syrup mixes with
a little assistance from Joy.

Anne measuring out the bi-carb.

At this point the Phantom Blogger quietly took her leave -
in the process of posing for the photo Anne
lost count and had to start again! Oops...

Have no fear, more ribbon is here...
Another 1 680 metres of it in fact.
Just making sure we're not going to run out!

First delivery loaded in the van, direction New Town.

Afternoon shift, Gary creating butter sculptures.

Rachel worked at the Tearooms this morning and
has joined the bake this afternoon.

John measures the ribbon with assistance from Wayne.

Sue assisting Julie with tying the ribbons and gumnuts.

Rod, Maree and Lorraine preparing more dry mix,
lots of counting here to make sure there's 10 cups of
everything in each batch.

A few bows to her name over the years,
Rebecca spent the afternoon tying ribbons.

Garry showing how it's done at the packing table.

Whilst in the kitchen Luke and Adele are keeping pace.

Bronte has the ovens tamed.

Who's got what it takes? 6 biscuits per tray,
12 trays per oven, 5 ovens make up this endurance test.

Full house, Anne waiting with another tray ready.

Are we working too hard? ask Layla and Bron.
Keep up the good work ladies!

Dallas scooping the last of today's mix out
of our faithful kitchen assistant Brice.

And guess what? Orders keep rolling in including a first second order!!! Have a good rest everyone, looks like we're doing this again tomorrow!
