Aurora Anzac Bake 2018
Welcome to the 2018 Bake...
As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Association and the commencement of Aurora Disability Services' day programme back in 1988, we again are ready to bake up a storm. As always the funds raised will assist the continued operation of our programmes and facilities.
So, with a few pearls of 30th anniversary wisdom along the way, this blog will take you through this year's bake.
We wouldn't be able to do this without our many supporters - from the businesses and organisations selling the biscuits for us, suppliers, volunteers; and of course all our loyal customers who return year after year to buy our biscuits (we hope you are enjoying some as you check out our blog!) - a big thank you to all of you.
If you would like a basket of biscuits for your business to sell, please email us at
auroradisability@auroradisability.org.au or call us on 6273 0916.

A few final words of trivia...
Remember that delivery of supplies we started with? And the top ups along the way? Well now that the dust has settled it's time to count the stock...or rather the empty bags and containers!
And with that we can confirm that if you'd like to bake 37 670 biscuits, you will need 8kg bicarb, 352kg butter, 215.5kg desiccated coconut, 2l vanilla essence, 430kg flour, 230kg rolled oats, 240m baking paper, 525kg sugar and 97kg golden syrup.
Piece of cake...measure, mix, roll, bake and pack, allow around 11 days. Wrap it up with about 2km of ribbon and tie in a giant bow!!!

And the winner is...
Congratulations Tamika Butler!
A voucher for use at either the Tearooms or Car Yard Café is yours for correctly identifying all the flags in this year's Flags of Our Blogs competition.
Since the start of the competition we have also seen visitors from Indonesia and New Zealand on our blog, we hope to see you all again next year.
And the final tally is...37 670 biscuits!!!!
Fantastic effort and thank you everyone - whether you helped with the baking or bought biscuits in this year's Anzac bake - well done!
All that remains now is to do an enormous cleanup of the building...

And finally...thank you from the Phantom Blogger - to everyone who happened to be in the right or wrong place at any time and provide all the material one could ask for in photos and words. And a thank you to everyone for following the bake through this blog. See you again next year!

Don't get too comfortable, there's more orders to go!
But where are all the helpers? Bit light on people today, the ones we had worked very hard though judging by the end of day tally.
What did we say about light on workers?
We have a phantom blogger, but now it seems we also have
phantom bag preparers...Veronique holding the fort.
Veronica adding some labels.
Garry concentrating on the gumnuts.
And Laurie taking a turn at Brice.
This team knows of hard work, Viva and Eric rolling in the pantry.
And Bronte only has eyes for the job too.
All that hard work is paying off says Anita.
And here they come!!!
Jennifer and Julie at the packing table.
Always ready to stop for a photo,
Matthew with another bag ready to go.
Butter fingers Karen???!!!
And it would have been a perfect biscuit too.
Well, we won't think of her too harshly - after all these days of hard work, this is day 10 after all. Afternoon came and we did it all again.
Allacia and Louise at the butter table for the last time?
That will depend on how many more orders we get!

David, Rod, Wayne and Shane,
more ribbon please!
Skye and Luke showing no signs of
slowing down in the kitchen.

And business as usual in the pantry too,
Jannie and Garry.

Veronica doing her favourite job of lifting biscuits to cool.
While Beppi and Gary count and pack.
And so does Carol on the other side.
Look, we've found a helper for Veronique this afternoon...
Finishing off the bags with Debbie.

Whilst in the kitchen cleaning starts again...
Kelly and Mathew cleaning Brice and washing up.
Ready to go out the door they were...
Last chance in the morning to order your biscuits and get your competition entry to us! Look forward to hearing from you, good night all.
Words of remembrance
We'd like to ask you to take a moment and reflect on the sacrifices by so many, and read about our history and traditions.
